Water procurement and management FAQs

Water procurement is the process of defining an organisation’s water and wastewater requirements, comparing eligible retailers and contract options, running a tender, selecting a supplier, and managing contract placement or switching. A managed service can also connect procurement with supplier support, bill validation, reporting, and consumption monitoring.

Eligibility depends on the location and classification of each premises. Eligible non-household premises in England can choose a retailer for water and wastewater retail services. In Scotland, non-household customers can choose a licensed provider for water and sewerage services. In Wales, premises using at least 50 million litres of water a year can switch their water retailer, but sewerage retail services are not included. Eligibility should be confirmed for each site.

Potential opportunities are not limited to reducing consumption. Historic invoice audits may examine tariffs, drainage, standing charges, non-return-to-sewer allowances, trade effluent, meter information, and leakage. Procurement and billing reviews may identify issues even when day-to-day consumption is efficient, but savings depend on the organisation’s current arrangements and are not guaranteed.

Yes. Requirements, retailer engagement, billing information, group invoices, site-level reporting, asset benchmarking, usage alerts, and account queries can be coordinated across multiple locations. The service design will depend on portfolio size, data quality, metering arrangements, existing contracts, and the agreed scope.
