Customer Overview
A leading privately-owned regional LTL (less than truckload) truck carrier, providing premium freight services across the Western US and Canada. With 37 terminals and more than 1,700 employees, the company continues to grow its fleet to meet customer demand.
The challenge
The company was working with multiple fuel card providers across its North American footprint. Tracking fuel consumption, filing IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) reports, and managing fuel costs created a significant administrative burden. The customer sought a fleet fuel card provider that could centralize reporting, improve visibility, and simplify fuel management.
The approach
World Fuel conducted a detailed review of the customer’s fueling operations and card programs. A comprehensive solution was developed that consolidated the customer’s fueling activities under a single card platform and centralized reporting solution across the United States and Canada.
Fuel Fleet Cards
World Fuel transitioned the customer’s fleet card program to the CFN (Commercial Fueling Network) card across all terminals in the United States and Canada.
Cardlock Sites
Ten customer terminals with existing fuel tanks were converted into private CFN cardlock locations and placed under a five-year fuel supply agreement. These private cardlock locations created local fueling stations with card reader access, enabling fuel consumption tracking by both driver and vehicle. Drivers were also provided access to public CFN cardlock sites and truck stops, ensuring convenient backup fueling options while maintaining reporting visibility.
Onsite Fleet Fueling
For terminals without fuel storage, World Fuel implemented onsite fleet fueling services by delivering fuel directly into the customer fleet. World Fuel also supplies lubricants and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to support fleet operations.
The impact
By consolidating fueling activities under a single supplier and reporting platform, the carrier now captures all fuel usage and cost data within one system. Whether fuel is purchased at a terminal, at a public fueling location, or through onsite fleet fueling, every transaction is visible within a consolidated and detailed reporting solution. The streamlined approach transformed fuel administration and tax reporting while generating measurable savings in one of the carrier’s largest operating expense categories.
